So, you’d like to get started in video marketing and run your own top home based business? Fantastic! You’re about to become one of the increasing number of women working from home, who rely on this valuable tool to help them in their business. Let me give you some tips.

Learning is what it’s all about. At first it was a very long process for me to shoot, edit and then upload a video, but now that I’m confident with it I’d like to recommend various tips which would have made it a much easier ride for me first time around.

If you’re feeling daunted by it, don’t be – there’s no need. If right now you’re thinking you won’t be able to stand in front of a camera and talk for two or three minutes, don’t let that put you off. The benefits are huge if you can master the art of video marketing.

It’s OK if you don’t feel confident at the outset. That’s how it is for the majority starting out and that’s quite normal. The only way this is going to get easier is to just jump in and get going even if you make mistakes and forget what you need to say.

So assuming that you’ve already done your keyword research around the niche that you want to target, then let’s get started.

The first choice you’re going to have to make is where to film it. Everyone has different tastes, but personally I’ve found that a clean, naturally lighted office works best, and failing that perhaps you could go outside. This may surprise you, but of course you rarely have any issues of off-colour lighting, and the only thing you really have to worry about is the wind blowing your hair in front of your face! Also, it is worth considering your background, as you don’t want to have any children/dogs/etc. playing games throughout the video and distracting potential customers.

Now, how will you film it? Many of you may first reach for your tripod, but if there’s any way you can manage to convince a patient friend, spouse or partner to film for you then this will speed up the process, giving you extra time to relax at the end of the day. Either way, all you have to do really is ensure that you have a smooth video without visible judder. Perhaps you have a smartphone, so seriously consider using this, as it really makes the process so much easier. Many today even upload directly to YouTube from the phone.

My preferred method is to get someone to video me using my iPhone, then I download it onto my Apple Mac. If no editing is needed, I just upload it to YouTube. Job done. Simple.

If standing and talking on camera frightens the life out of you, then don’t worry, it’s not the end of the world. Instead, perhaps record a voice-over to an informative set of slides? PowerPoint on PCs or Keynote on Apple Macs both work really well here.

Your videos need to be punchy, informative and exciting. Quite a tall order I know, but in order to stand out in the crowd you have to make sure that your viewers are interested in what you have to say. The best way to manage this I believe is to think about what you might watch. If you’re bored by yourself when you watch the video back, then you can’t expect others to be interested! Remember, this is a brilliant opportunity, so make the most of it.

Actually having content to speak about can sometimes feel like an uphill struggle, but why not write an article on a topic you’ve researched, and then while this is fresh in your mind, shoot a video. A veritable torrent will probably rush out of your mouth, and rather than struggling for words maybe you’ll have too much! (always a preferable situation) Aim for around three minutes as a guideline, or even shorter if you can manage it.

Listening to someone speak naturally even if they make a few mistakes is much more appealing that watching someone who is obviously reading. If you allow yourself to relax, you’ll find your words flow much easier.

If possible, try not to use any kind of cue prompter at all, although if you really need to jog your memory, try some large bullet points on paper behind the camera. It’s best to make it look as though you’re looking at the camera the entire time, so don’t move your eyes and visibly read too much!

Keywords. I really can’t stress their importance enough. Make sure you mention them within the natural flow of your video, and also insert them into both the video’s description and the tags for the video. These will help your video be found, which, after all, is the whole point.

You need to draw in viewers and then retain their attention, so make your videos punchy and interesting. Think about what you might wish to watch.

YouTube is a fantastic place. Really! The average user watches around 15 minutes of YouTube videos per day, and if you consider just how busy your daily schedule is, then you’ll realise that this is actually a surprising amount of time. All you need to do is make sure that 2 or 3 of those 15 minutes are spent watching your videos.

It’s very important that you find your area of special interest, from which you can attract viewers who feel confident that you are secure and knowledgeable. This needs to be targeted with the specific keywords which will allow people to find your videos (just a little important!) Imagine that you are in a business – what would you type in to find your video?

For example, I’m targeting other women working from home like me, so I’ve done my keyword research around this particular niche and have come up with a list of the keywords associated to it.

Keyword research is that step up which will help people across the web to find your videos.

I cannot stress to you enough just how important keywords are. They are make or break in this business, so, get started on this as soon as you can.

For most people who are working in the home, a day can not go by without something happening that prevents them from completing everything on there list of things to do. Distractions are common and can prevent you from getting your tasks done. If you are going to reach success, you first have to learn how to work from home in the most efficient manner possible.

When you first start out, be prepared to spend time learning how to work from home in the most efficient manner possible. This will make life easier on you. You will soon find that you get used to working in your home and that your family learns that you are not available to them when you are in your office. Within a short time, it will become the norm for you and your family and it will be a lot easier for both you and them.
