If you want to increase your business two-fold, all you need to do is employ a little bit of social marketing magic. You don’t even need a major marketing budget like the big dogs have.

Some estimate that billions of people post on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter every day. Those are all potential customers to your business, you just have to know how to reach out and connect to them. Here are a few tips for making that happen.

1. Don’t spread junk. Make sure your own content, whether it is a blog post or a Twitter “Tweet,” is something worth somebody’s time. If not, don’t post it. Also check your spelling and grammar. You may not believe it, but little things like a misplaced letter or phrase can really turn off your readers and fail to turn them into buying customers.

Remember, your readers are all potential customers. But any reason not to employ your site or service will be taken.

2. Don’t just talk facts, let your readers know who you are. That means getting a little personal. Discuss your feelings and your family. Also, don’t be afraid to post a pic or two. By putting a face on your company, you help to humanize it and turn it into a trust-building exercise.

3. Answer questions. If somebody wants to know how something works and you have the knowledge, or somebody else has a question about your range of services, don’t be a jerk. Let them know what you know. Even if it seems like it may reduce your own value in the short term, in the long term you may have a new repeat customer.

4. Don’t use spamming tactics. It is unethical, lazy and it irritates people.

This is really a great way to shoot your brand in its foot, so to speak. If you put out message after message about your own business, people will be turned off. Then they will find other places in which to spend their money.
